Despite losing its home course to the fire, Lady Eagles end with productive season led by freshman

They used to have a little, now they have a lot, thanks to Jenny from the Block.
After Marshall’s home, the Altadena Golf Course burned to the ground in January, the future of the team was uncertain.
“Most of the teams that we were getting ready to compete with had probably a month or two of practice. Once we were able to secure a good location, which was Eaton Canyon Golf Course, we were able to get started,” he said.
Even after facing challenges, the girl’s golf team came back committed and competitive.
“The majority of the team is sophomores. I think them coming in with more experience and the knowledge of what’s expected traveling to the golf courses made them more competitive,” Harris said. “We had 6 matches, we won 2 and lost 4.”
Freshman addition to the team, Jenny Chhay shone this season. She consistently scored the best on the team and was only two strokes away from competing in CIF.
“I hope to make it to finals next time,” Chhay said. “I’ve been playing for seven years. My dad got me, my brother, and my cousin into it and I haven’t stopped ever since.”
Next year holds different challenges, however. Marshall will join the schools in the current Rio Hondo and Pacific Leagues to make a new super-conference. This adjustment could mean harder competition for the team.
“They made a league within a league and so we will have several teams in this league. Within the league, for example, they’ll have different levels of competition. Say, for example, they’ll have an A, B, and C division where one level is more advanced than some of the others,” Harris said.
But next year the team will also have better equipment, thanks to the Southern California PGA. They reached out to Harris last year looking to donate golf clubs.
“It was actually a year process. They reached out last year. They said they were going to supply our program with golf clubs,” Harris said.
After the reopening of the Altadena Golf Course was announced for January 2026, the only challenge Harris reported was “trying to get more players”. For those interested in joining the girls’ or boys’ team.
